ECONOMIC GROWTH AS A PROCESS OF STRUCTURAL CHANGE….

A full consideration of the fact that green investments today will also increase aggregate demand gives an even more positive macroeconomic picture. Indeed, such investments can help increase economic activity and employment in the short-run, a much needed action for industrial economies that are still characterized by high levels of unemployment. This positive effect may even counteract whatever adverse aggregate 7 supply effects those investments can have in the short term. In turn, to the extent that investment is embodied in new equipment or leads to learning-by-doing, higher investment induces productivity growth, reinforcing long-term growth. Obviously, the composition of the demand stimulus must be carefully chosen to reinforce sustainable development: certain types of consumption and investment must be restricted to avoid excessive resource depletion and waste, whereas environmentally-friendly investment and consumption should expand.

America is poised to become a global energy powerhouse.

The United States has a greater variety and quantity of energy resources than any other country in the world. When combined with new exploration, production and end-use technologies, there is no reason we cannot usher in a new and long-lasting era of energy abundance and enjoy its economic benefits. Instead of erecting roadblocks to domestic energy development, government policy should be embracing a more secure energy future by creating an environment that welcomes investment, innovation and job creation. Now is the time to adopt an agenda that will unleash the energy revolution and all of its benefits. Solutions for Securing America’s Future The energy opportunities available to the U.S. are unprecedented in their scale, scope and importance to economic growth, but harnessing these opportunities is not guaranteed.

Reasons to be Optimistic about Jobs and Economic Growth The Congressional Research Service estimates that the United States holds about 17% of all the world’s combined reserves of oil, natural gas and coal— more than Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran or any other country.

Unconventional oil and natural gas development are playing a big role in America’s energy comeback, lowering energy costs and fostering a manufacturing renaissance. One study found that unconventional oil and gas development in 2012 accounted for 2.1 million jobs, $75 billion in government revenues, $87 billion in investment and $284 billion in economic activity.

The United States is already a net exporter of refined petroleum products, and as domestic production of crude oil grows, the amount we import is shrinking. Instead of importing growing volumes of natural gas, by 2020 the United States is expected to become a net exporter.

These trends could potentially eliminate our trade deficit by the end of the decade. Abundant and affordable coal, natural gas and nuclear power give America a big competitive advantage. They mean that U.S. electricity rates are two to four times lower than rates in other developed countries in Europe, as well as in Japan

Environmental Responsibility

We strive to have the world better than we found it. In order to think about environmental responsibility, we must set three priorities where we can make the most impact:

  • Reduce our impact on climate change by using renewable energy sources and driving energy efficiency in our life
  • Conserve precious resources so we all can thrive
  • Pioneer the use of greener materials in our daily life

The energy makes up our carbon footprint and in turn, our share of the climate change problem.

Forest products facilities produce 70 percent of the renewable biomass energy used by the entire manufacturing sector.

What is the Benefit to use the Renewable Energy:

Renewable energy has the potential to reduce pollution, slow global warming, create new industries and jobs, and move America toward a cleaner, healthier energy future. But renewable energy is not without its challenges and impacts.

Increasing the supply of renewable energy would allow us to replace carbon-intensive energy sources and significantly reduce U.S. global warming emissions.

For example, a 2009 UCS analysis found that a 25 percent by 2025 national renewable electricity standard would lower power plant CO2 emissions 277 million metric tons annually by 2025—the equivalent of the annual output from 70 typical (600 MW) new coal plants

What is Renewable Energy ?

The movement of wind and water, the heat and light of the sun, the carbohydrates in plants, and the warmth in the Earth—all are energy sources that can supply our needs in a sustainable way. A variety of methods are used to convert these renewable resources into electricity.

Resource of Renewable energy, are :

  1. Wind: Wind turbines harness air currents and convert them to emissions-free power. Plentiful and inexhaustible in the United States and around the world, wind power is one of the fastest growing renewable technologies and has the potential to provide a significant portion of our electricity needs.
  2. Solar: Power from the sun—is a vast and inexhaustible resource that can supply a significant portion of our electricity needs. A range of technologies is used to convert the sun’s energy into electricity, including solar collectors and photovoltaic panels.
  3. Geothermal: Heat from the earth can be used as an energy source in many ways, from large and complex power stations to small and relatively simple residential pumping systems.
  4. Hydroelectric: Using dams to exploit the movement of water for electricity, known as hydroelectric power, is the largest source of renewable power in the United States and worldwide.
  5. Biomass: Plant material and animal waste—is one of the oldest sources of renewable energy, used since our ancestors learned the secret of fire. Now we have the technology to efficiently convert it to electricity.
  6. Hydrokinetic: The power of moving water is obvious to anyone who has stood amidst breaking waves or struggled to swim against a river’s current. New technologies enable us to harness the might of rivers, tides, and waves for electricity.
  7. Nuclear Power: is “clean” from an emissions standpoint—nuclear power plants produce no air pollution or global warming emissions when they operate—but nuclear power has the potential to cause catastrophic damage to human health and the environment in the event of a meltdown or other disaster.

What are benefits of renewable Energy use ?

The use of renewable energy is increasing at very fast pace, but we cannot rely exclusively on renewable energy to meet all of our demand for electricity. Renewable energy is not easy to store or save, because we can only get wind energy when the wind is blowing or solar energy when the sun is shining. Coal and natural gas power plants can store the fuel and use more when there is more demand or less when there is less demand.

Renewable energy is also usually more expensive than conventional energy sources. However, as technology for renewable improves and the cost of fossil fuels increases, renewable will become competitive or cheaper than fossil fuels.

Renewable energy has the potential to reduce pollution, slow global warming, create new industries and jobs, and move America toward a cleaner, healthier energy future. But renewable energy is not without its challenges and impacts.
